Visa U.S. Halfpipe Grand Prix 2011 – Copper Mountain

Louie Vito took 1st place in last seasons Visa U.S. Halfpipe Grand Prix on Dec. 10th. and landed back to back doubles and other stylish hits in his run, He also took it to the next level by throwing a frontside double 10, cab double 10, stiffie, back 9 and front 10. According to Vito, it was a nice way to kick off another season.”I’m really stoked. I’m happy to land a run when I had to and start the season off well,” Vito said. “It’s good to have landed and to be on the podium with two of my best friends.”Vito took the lead with back-to-back doubles in the 1st run which maintained the lead through the entire competition. Also making the podium was Luke Mitrani from Mammoth, CA, and Olympic bronze medalist Scotty Lago of Seabrook, NH. According to Vito, with the first one out of the way, he’s ready for the rest of the competition season.”I’m happy to be back into contests and to shake those pre contest season jitters out of the way. You get rid of the anxiety and remember the feelings you have up there and you’re ready to move forward,” Vito said.

TTR Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mens Halfpipe – Mitrani, Vito, Bretz

Luke Mitrani (Stratton Mountain, VT) put down a huge first run to win. "This is crazy because I didn't even snowboard this summer. I just skateboarded a lot and took my mind off snowboarding, so to jump back into it is crazy to win a contest. I'm shocked. My strategy was to just focus on my riding and feed off of other people. When someone does something big it makes me want to ride even harder for myself."Pro Halfpipe Team member Greg Bretz (Anaheim) placed third behind defending champion Louie Vito (Columbus, OH) in a contest full of upping the ante, as riders put down frontside 12s and a even few back-to-back double cork 10s while afternoon shadows moved over the Copper halfpipe.The Copper Grand Prix had some major influence on the TTR Rankings. New leader of the TTR Halfpipe World Tour Ranking is Louie Vito, after coming in second here at Copper Mountain. Christian Haller, taking 5th place here, moved from the 10th to the 5th position making it into the top 5. Entering the top 10 from the 33rd position is Nathan Johnstone with his 8th place this weekend.
