Burton European Open 2013 – Slopestyle Wrap Up & Powder Turns

The Slopestyle competition at this years 6Star Burton European Open didn't go as planned with Men's finals and the entire Women's event having to be cancelled. Instead everyone went shredding the powder that came with the bad weather. In the end the girls got to ride some powder and split the prize money evenly. For the men, the scores of Wednesday’s Semi-Finals would be counted as the final results, leaving Torstein Horgmo to take center stage on the podium, with Mark McMorris and Sebastien Toutant taking second and third respectively. Torstein said: „Six years ago I broke my back here in Laax at the BEO, now I’m back for the first time and I won, it can’t be better! It has been an amazing week, too bad the weather didn’t allow to ride the finals today, but we all gave our best yesterday.“ These results also count towards the Overall and Slopestyle World Snowboard Tour rankings. Mark McMorris moves into the top spot of the World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle ranking with 801.62 points, pushing Roope Tonteri (FIN) into 2nd place. Sebastien Toutant moves into 8th place both Overall and in Slopestyle, and Torstein moves into 13th place in the Slopestyle rankings.

TTR – Iouri Podladtchikov, Peetu Piiroinen & Kazuhiro Kokubo On The BEO Pipe Finals

Iouri Podladtchikov, Peetu Piiroinen and Kazuhiro Kokubo talk to the Stwatch TTR World Snowboarding Tour about the 6Star Burton European Open Finals in Laax, Switzerland. Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI), took third place at BEO with big spins in the pipe to move into the TTR World No. 1 spot. But, it was Finnish halfpipe machine, Peetu Piiroinen, who took down the win for the second year in a row, which improved his position in the World Rankings to World No. 3. Peetu blew the crowd away with his last run made up of a frontside 720, Cab double cork 1080, frontside air, backside 900 and a backside alley-oop rodeo. Peetu was very happy with his win saying, "This win means a lot to me, I would not have thought that I would be able to defend my victory from last year. It was a really great weekend, second place in slopestyle and first in pipe and I have some other good results on tour which means I could fight for the TTR title again." Style master, Kazuhiro Kokubo (JPN), took second place with an excellent display of how riders can excel with a run focusing on style in the halfpipe.
