Sprint U.S. Grand Prix, Copper – Wrap Up

The Sprint U.S. Grand Prix Finals went down this weekend at Copper Mountain. At this very first North American World Snowboard Tour 5Star event all riders were able to collect World Snowboard Tour Points as well as points for the Olympic Qualification.

Friday marked the final day of the Slopestyle competition. Chas Guldemond took the top spot in the men’s final, followed by the Finnish rider Roope Tonteri (2nd) and Peetu Piiroinen (3rd). Chas Guldemond’s run featured tricks such as a Frontside 270 to Frontside Boardslide on the down rail and a stylish Blunt 450 out on the pole jam feature. For the jump line, he did a switch backside 720 mute on the first jump, a cab double cork 1260 melon grab on the second and capped his run off with a massive backside double cork 1260 mute on the third and final jump. In the women’s final Jamie Anderson managed to take the top spot, followed by Norwegian Kjersti Buaas (2nd) and Swiss Isabel Derungs (3rd).

Saturday’s Halfpipe finals brought a close to the World Snowboard Tour 5Star event and were ruled by the Australian riders Torah Bright and Nathan Johnstone. In the women’s final Torah Bright won with 85.75 points, followed by current 2nd in the Halfpipe Tour Ranking, Kelly Clark (2nd) and Spanish rider Queralt Castellet (3rd). In the men’s final Nathan Johnstone took the top spot with a massive backside air, a front double corked 1080, followed by a cab 1080. His last hits consisted of a Cab 1080 Taipan grab, a frontside 900 with a mute grab and to wrap it up a backside 900 with a melon grab. He was followed by the two Americans Luke Mitrani (2nd) and Louie Vito (3rd).
