(Innsbruck, March 29th, 2012) Travelling through blooming southern France and the rough and wild nature of the Pyrenees, the Burton Park Jam Tour 2012 arrived in Astun, Spain, for the second-last stop of the tour scheduled on March 25th. Bluebird skies, spring weather and a perfect slopestyle course welcomed riders at the Astun Snowpark, still in great conditions despite the warm temperatures of the last weeks.
With two kicker-lines with medium and small jumps plus a mini-pipe set on the side, the park set-up featured also a butterbox, a flat-down-flat-pipe, a flat-down-box followed by a down-pipe, a straight box, and a slightly z-shaped-pipe rounded up by a hipbonk-feature plus a shooting-pipe at the end. Two jam sessions of 1h30 min each was the format chosen for the event, allowing every rider to get as many runs as possible. With the best two runs counting for the final results, every amateur snowboarder tried to impress the judges from the very beginning andwith Spanish snowboard legend Iker Fernandez being one of the judges, riders’ motivation went way straight over the roof.
The show offered by the participants was incredible, as all riders pulled very technical tricks despite their young age: definitely the proof that the future of Spanish snowboarding is in good hands, as 13-year-old girl Paula Macia Bocanegra (ESP) proved to crowd and judges. Paula hit all the kickers just like her male rivals and landed 1st on the Girls podium with a Nosegrab on the first jump, a backside 360 on the second kicker and a final backside 180 over the bonk.
Telmo Garai (ESP) finished 1st in the Kids category with a Method Air and a backside 180 on the kickers, finishing with a frontside 360 over the bonk. The battle for the podium got definitely tighter in the Men’s group, with the top 3 riders showing great style in every trick. Aritza Atutxa (ESP) proved to have what it takes for the gold medal and judges awarded his amazing run consisting of a Cab 360, a backside Rodeo 540 and a Bonk frontside 360 out. Fellow countrymen AlbertCasas Alias and Ioritz Azkolizaga Glera respectively followed on the podium on 2nd and 3rd postion.
Thanks to the resort of Astun for the local support, to Risko Fernandez as the official speaker of the event and to the many snowboarders and people who gathered at the Astun Snowpark to cheer the kids. Don’t miss the final edit of the BPJT stop in Astun on youtu.be/yUWTKdOLC3M
