Swatch TTR Four(4)Star Red Bull Nanshan Open Takes Over China

Beijing, China – The Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour is gaining momentum as it moves into 2008. While many gather in Davos, Switzerland for the ONeill Evolution, halfway around the world a whole different crew of riders are ready to tear up some Chinese snow. On January 5th and 6th 2008, 19 riders will attack the Nokia Nanshan Mellow Park for the FOUR(4)STAR Red Bull Nanshan Open in Beijing, China. The top rider will claim 700 TTR Ranking Points and a piece of the $25 000 USD prize purse. As the 6th Red Bull Nanshan Open, and the only international event on Chinese soil, the slopestyle competition progresses riding in China at an incredible rate bringing riders from all over the world to one of the best parks ever constructed in the Peoples Republic, China. For the 2008 season, the event has moved up from a THREE(3)STAR to a FOUR(4)STAR Title, promising a better park and even better riding as the stakes get higher for more Swatch TTR Ranking Points. On December 29th, 2007 the qualification session brought three local Chinese riders into the mix to compete alongside 15 international riders on the 5th and 6th of January. The weather was icy cold but that didnt stop the shredding and technical ninja mastery of each and every park feature. Wang Lei (CHN) amped up the crowd and took the top spot with a huge BS Rodeo 5, FS 5 and BS Tail to 270 off among other fresh tricks. Andrew Wilde (CHN) took the second of three spots, with a switch FS 3 and a smooth switch tail press to 360 out on the butter box. Zhang Wei (CHN) took the third qualification spot with a FS 5 and some stylish FS Boardslides on the boxes. Marco Smolla (GER), one of the 16 invited riders who was set to compete is out due to an injury, bringing the invited riders list down to just 15. Saturday and Sunday will no doubt be a showdown of the smoothest riding around as Chinese up-and-comers show the international mountain-slayers what snowboarding in China is all about. If the qualifications were any sign of what to expect, The Swatch TTR FOUR(4)STAR Red Bull Nanshan Open will for sure explode with new school progression. Sponsored in part by Quiksilver, the competition will also include live performances by Reflector and DJ Wordy on the Gibson Stage.Top 3 Qualifying Chinese Riders:Wang Lei CHN – Burton, AnonAndrew Wilde CHN – Quiksilver, ForumZhang Wei CHN – Forum, Special Blend16 Invited International Riders:Atsushi Ishikawa JPN – Quiksilver, NitroFreddy Austbo NOR – Quiksilver, Thirty-TwoJakob Wilhelmson SWE – Quiksilver, Lib TechKalle Ohlson SWE – Vans, BataleonMarc Swoboda AUT – Red Bull, NitroAndreas Monsberger, AUT – K2, Planet EarthPatrik Huber AUT – Nitro, ElectricMarco Smolla* GER – Nitro, Red BullIsao Seki JPN – Quiksilver, AllianNick Gregory AUS – Red Bull, BillabongMartin Cernik CZE – Quiksilver, Red BullJake Koia NZE – Oakley, EndevavorPeter Koenig AUT – Forum, Special BlendMorgan Le Faucheur FRA – Burton, VolcomYuichi Onobu JPN – Twelve, DragonRenzo Tato Chiala ITA – Burton, Analog*Out due to injuryFor further information:Steve Zdarsky – steve (at)
