Two weeks and counting…

Two weeks till Australia’s Premiere snowboarding event gets underway and the scene could not look any better. Huge recent snowfalls and a great winter have helped build up the snowpack enabling the best competition park Australia has ever seen to be nearing completion guaranteeing action like never before seen in the Australian mountains. With $20,000 up for grabs and a small army of the world’s best slopestyle riders heading our way Falls Creek is about to witness something spectacular.

This year’s event is dripping with top international talent but the riders Australians will be most interested in will be local Sydney boy and current World Halfpipe Champion, Nathan Johnstone (AUS) and Melbourne local Robbie Walker who has been absent from the Australian competition scene for years with sponsorship commitments. Current World Snowboard Tour leader Antoine Truchon (CAN), last year’s Stylewars winner Tor Lundstrom (SWE), current World number 2 women’s slopestyle Christy Prior (NZ), Nuutti Niemelä (FIN), Mathias Weissenbacher (AUT), Matts Kulisek (CAN) and a long list of the world’s best slopestyle men and women will make this event well worth taking a few days off work for and headed to the mountains.

A big part of the 3-day Stylewars event is 28 Stairs (Wednesday 5th September), which has witnessed the biggest names in street style snowboarding. This year’s man to watch will be Jindabyne local and Burton team rider Jye Kearney (AUS) who stole the show last year with a near perfect display of calculated rail riding but he will have to work hard at it with the international field showing a lot of interest in taking the tile back. Jordan Phillips (CAN) will be one to watch on his first trip downunder.

Stylewars takes place in Falls Creek Resort, Victoria annually and is one of only a few dozen World Snowboard Tour pro-level events in the world. Stylewars is the Australian Slopestyle Championships and works together with its sister event The Mile High in Thredbo to make up the Australian Pro-tour. The tour has over $40,000 in prize money and attracts the best of the best in snowboarding to Australia.
