The 4Star Sony Ericsson Snowboard Fest brings a line up of international snowboarders to the popular Slovakian resort of Driencia. The jam format big air competition takes place on the 19th of February 2011, and is set up to become a truly spectacular 11th edition of the event. The Snowboard Fest was upgraded from a 3Star to a 4Star TTR event this year and now features a generous $10 000 USD prize purse and an opportunity for riders to earn a maximum of 500 Swatch TTR ranking points. Shaking Up the Big Air Qualification FormatThe format at this big air event mixes up the qualification criteria from round to round. In the first round competitors will have a jam format, and riders who succeed in stomping a minimum of a 540 degree rotation will go through to the semifinal. The semifinal riders will choose two out of a selection of set tricks and must perform the chosen tricks for a judged score. The finals will see the ten highest scoring riders from the semifinal round, along with a few wild card riders, that will drop into a three run, best two count, battle. The final round will take place in the evening, under the lights, in front of a cheering crowd. This Sony Ericsson Snowboard Fest has always attracted a great deal of international snowboard talent and out of the 50 riders set to compete, some top European snowboarders will be in attendance in Slovakia. German rider, Alessandro Boyens, has won the event a respectable three times in a row and is planning to return and defend his title. However, he will have to step it up his game with the likes of Jan Necas (CZE) on the rider list, who placed eighth at this years 5Star Burton New Zealand Open slopestyle and has a stylish double back flip in his bag of tricks. There will also be many up-and-coming riders in attendance like Aljosa Krivec (SLO), Janosz Piotr (POL) and Isak BjErnstrEm (SWE) who took second place at the 4Star Stimorol Engadinsnow. In addition to the $10 000 USD prize purse, riders will be competing for a surf board that will be awarded as the prize for the Quicksilver Best Trick, which will be judged by the spectators.
