The 3Star Protest World Rookie Fest is a crucial stepping stone for rookies to step into the Swatch TTR big time. Just recently, hordes of rookies migrated from the 6Star Burton European Open across to Livigno, Italy, for a chance to go head to head against one another in a Swatch TTR sanctioned contest. Although it was only a 3Star event, it still provided rookies with a chance to snag some ranking points and move up in the Swatch TTR World ranking. In the Mens competition the Scandinavians dominated, with Stale Sandbech (NOR) moving up 24 positions to World No. 39. Soon they will probably talk about Frode Sandbech (Norwegian photographer) as Stale’s older brother instad of the other way round. After his incredible slopestyle performance at the O’Neill Evolution Kevin Backstrom (SWE) launched himself into the TTR Top 100. The other male rookie of note was Dimi De Jong (NED) who moved into World No. 59. The biggest success story of the contest though was 17year old Michaela Davis-Meehan (AUS) who jumped up 2 positions to Word No.3, leapfrogging 05/06 World Tour Champion, Cheryl Maas (NED). The rookies ability to rise up on the ranking at the 3Star Protest World Rookie Fest highlight how important it is for young riders to prove themselves. Slowly, but surely they can rise up to the top in a truly integrated 1-6Star system.
