AUSTRALIAN PRO-TOUR AND WORLD SNOWBOARD TOUR 4-STAR EVENT. 27 – 29 AUGUST.
Brought to you by:
Carlton Dry, Burton Snowboards and Thredbo Resort.
6 Days to go and the rider list is strong for the maiden voyage of The Mile High.
Thredbo is currently experiencing conditions more normally associated with Japan than Australia. With a metre of powder having fallen this past week and another 40cm expected before The Mile High by Carlton Dry starts this coming Monday things could not look any better for a world class slopestyle competition. The course is looking great and the international rider field will be the strongest snowboarding field ever to compete at Thredbo.
For a first year World Snowboard Tour event The Mile High is honored to host some of the World’s hottest slopestyle stars and the very cream of the local crop including Robbie Walker (AUS) competing in Australia at a major event for the first time in years. Last year’s Stylewars winner Tor Lundstrom (SWE), current World number 2 women’s slopestyle Christy Prior (NZ), Nuutti Niemelä (FIN), Jordan Phillips (CAN), Nick Brown (NZ), CLINT ALLAN (AUS) and a load of serious contenders are confirmed to start. One to watch will be Australian young gun Cameron Staveley (AUS) who currently is sitting in the top 10 on the World Snowboard Tour slopestyle rankings.
The action will take place between 11.00am and 1.00pm daily up on the Antons slopestyle course. A 2-hour jam format session will provide a fantastic display of just how far the sport of snowboarding slopestyle has progressed and open people’s eyes on what to look forward to with the discipline’s first appearance at Olympic level in Sochi Russia in 2014. Results will be posted daily to www.themilehigh.com.au and drop in daily for the Carlton Dry après at the River Inn from 1pm till the sun goes down.
The Mile High will take place annually and is one of only a few dozen World Snowboard Tour pro-level events in the world. The Mile High works together with its sister event Stylewars in Falls Creek to make up the Australian Pro-tour. The tour has over $40,000 in prize money and attracts the best of the best in snowboarding to Australia.
