Kick Off To The 6Star Marathon And Chase Of Crucial Swatch TTR Ranking Points

The Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour is gaining momentum with the second 6Star event right around the corner. The ONeill Evolution, taking place in Davos, Switzerland, will feature a 6Star halfpipe competition, a 5Star slopestyle competition with a prize purse worth $100,000 USD. The event is scheduled for January 4-9, 2010 and both men and women will take to the halfpipe aiming to secure a 6Star result. The 5Star slopestyle format will be open to men only.Setting Up for a Battle On TourWith one 6Star result and one 5Star result available for the men at the Evolution the Swatch TTR rankings are going to be heating up. Current Swatch TTR World No. 1, Marko Grilc (SLO), will be in attendance after his big win at the 6Star Billabong Air & Style and will be looking to defend his tour lead from current World No. 4, Peetu Piiroinen (FIN). Piiroinen could set himself up for a good shot at his second consecutive Swatch TTR World Snowboard Champion title if he fares well at the Evolution. Piiroinen had this to say about the possibility of winning back-to-back TTR titles, It would be nice to win the TTR title two times and, of course, Im going to try. There are still many TTR contests that I will do; the Arctic Challenge, European Open and US Open. If Piiroinen chases the title, he could be the first rider in history to win back-to-back TTR World Snowboard Champion titles. Piiroinen and Grilc will need to fend off other heavy threats in Davos to keep atop the rankings including current World No. 7, Eric Willet (USA) and World No. 26, Risto Mattila (FIN).Busy Month for the LadiesJanuary is an especially busy month for the women with three major events on the calendar. The ladies will be charging in the halfpipe at the Evolution trying to set themselves up for the 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam which is scheduled for January 8-10, immediately after Evolution wraps up. Czech phenomenon and current TTR World No. 1, Sarka Pancochova, has really made a name for herself on tour over the past season. However, Pancochova has some tough competition to deal with, such as current World No. 3 and previous TTR World Snowboard Champion, Cheryl Maas (NED), who has the chance to better her ranking to World No. 2. Current World No. 8, Cilka Sadar (SLO), a fresh name in the major competition circuit, will also be in attendance and has the opportunity to move into World No. 5 together with local favorite Sina Candrian in World No. 7, who won the 6Star halfpipe competition in Davos in 2007.After Evolution and Chicken Jam come to a close, the women have yet another 6Star event to hit with the Burton European Open happening January 9-16, 2010. January holds a total of four possible major results for the women.ONeill Evolution Webcast InfoThe 2010 ONeill Evolution will be webcast live by Freecaster.TV and will be available on The halfpipe finals webcast will kick off on Friday, January 8 at 14:30pm CET/8:30am EST.
