The 5Star Burton Canadian Open halfpipe finals went down under the lights tonight in Calgary, Alberta at the Winsport Canada Olympic Park. Japanese rider, Kohei Kudo, and American, Kelly Clark, took home the wins and were rewarded with a large share of the $50,000 USD prize purse and 850 Swatch TTR World Ranking points. Christian Haller (SUI) took third place tonight, which boosted him into the Swatch TTR Tour lead and Slovenian rider, Cilka Sadar, is now sitting in World No. 1 for the women. Kelly kept her upward momentum in the rankings and has moved into TTR World No. 4. Christian, Cilka and Kelly are all in great positions to take a piece of the $200,000 USD TTR prize purse if they can continue their string of good results into the end of the season.Friday Night Halfpipe Action Under the LightsIt was a clear, but windy night at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, but the riders powered through and put on an excellent show for the crowd. Kohei Kudo had a great night with big airs and smooth style to take his first major TTR title of his career. He won with a run that consisted of a backside 540, frontside 1080, Haakon flip, frontside 900 and finished with a backside 900. Behind Kohei was young gun, Scotty James (AUS), who has been turning heads this season and with his second place finish moved up in the world rankings to World No. 8. And, Christian Haller finished in third and was stoked on taking the World No. 1 spot saying, This definitely feels great, it was a little difficult riding this pipe, but Im super stoked on the third place. Im really trying to finish in the TTR top 5 and get invites to all the big competitions next year .On the womens side, Kelly Clark took another win for the season with her signature big airs in the pipe. Kelly sealed the win with an excellent run throwing down a frontside air, backside 540, frontside 720, Cab 720, and a frontside 540. Cilka Sadar rode well tonight to take second place, which moved her into the tour lead for the moment. But, she will need to watch out for the ladies competing in slopestyle finals tomorrow who could knock her off the top spot. Mercedes Nicolls (CAN) rounded out the podium in third place. Kelly Clark has moved up in the TTR rankings quite dramatically over the past month and had this to say about the Canadian Open and the rest of the season, I had a great week here in Canada and Im really excited that the Mammoth Grand Prix is a 5Star TTR event. Ill need that finish as well as the US Open to round out my finishes for the year. There is one more day of action at the 5Star Burton Canadian Open, which will feature mens and womens slopestyle finals that will bring some more shuffling in the world rankings especially on the womens side where the rider list is stacked with women in the current TTR Top 10.
