The TTR portion of the Shred Show presented by Monster Energy wrapped up today with the 5Star slopestyle competition. Canadian rider, Antoine Truchon, battled through the foggy conditions up on Blackcomb Mountain to take the top spot on the podium and was awarded $15,000 for his victory.
American, Ian Thorley, threw down a solid run to take second place and Logan Haubrich, another Canadian, rounded out the podium in third. Riders were faced with less than ideal weather conditions with fog rolling up from the valley, so the competition was condensed into a ‘super-finals’ format that included all 23 competitors in a best of three run format. The Whistler/Blackcomb park crew did an excellent job on the course that included a jump at the top, a gap to giant butter box, an option of cannon jib or a gap to cannon, a channel gap and ended with a sizable kicker.
In the end it was Antoine Truchon who had the x-ray vision to power through the fog and stomped a run that was made up of a frontside 1080 double cork, frontside 180 on to switch backside 180 off on the butter box, a boardslide to 270 out on the cannon, a backside 540 and a switch backside 1080 double cork to finish it off. Antoine was very happy with his win saying, “It feels pretty good to win especially with the challenging conditions. So, I’m really glad to win here. I’ve been riding a lot of TTR events this year and next season I’m trying to send it like a king.”
The Shred Show was the first 5Star slopestyle event of the 2012/2013 season in North America and all riders who competed got a nice jump start banking some early season points. With the Northern Hemisphere summer looming on the horizon, the TTR World Tour will take a brief hiatus before all attention shifts to New Zealand and Australia for the Southern Hemisphere leg.
