The 5Star Sprint US Snowboarding Grand Prix is set to go off March 2nd to 5th, 2011 in Mammoth Lakes, California, where top riders will be competing in halfpipe for a piece of the $90,000 USD prize purse and a maximum of 850 TTR World Ranking points. The Grand Prix will host a pristine 22-foot halfpipe and is a perfect event for riders to post a 5Star TTR result before the final major event of the season; the 6Star Burton US Open. The riders list includes the likes of TTR World No. 10, Benji Farrow (USA), and World No. 11, Kelly Clark (USA) who could both improve their positions in the Top 10 with a good result at the Grand Prix. After a one-year hiatus, the US Snowboarding Grand Prix is back as a major North American stop on the Swatch TTR World Tour providing riders the opportunity to obtain Swatch TTR World Ranking points. American rider, Benji Farrow, has been a regular fixture at TTR events this season with top 5 finishes in the halfpipe at both the 6Star O’Neil Evolution and the 6Star Burton European Open. If Benji rides well in Mammoth, he could boost his current place in the TTR Top 10, which will set him up for a chance at a piece of the TTR end of season prize purse, which is awarded to the men who finish the season in the TTR Top 5. Benij will need to keep an eye out for some solid competition from American Olympians, Greg Bretz and Louie Vito, who always bring some big riding to any pipe competition. On the women’s side, American halfpipe expert, Kelly Clark, is having an amazing season and will be going after her fourth major TTR halfpipe title at the Grand Prix. Although Kelly is currently sitting in World No. 11, she has only posted four results for the season, so far. With a 5Star result posted this week, and the 6Star Burton US Open right around the corner, Kelly could quickly advance into the TTR Top 3. Also planning to attend is 13-year old phenomenon, Ty Walker, who took down third place on the podium at the 5Star Burton Canadian Open slopestyle and grabbed a respectable seventh place at the legendary 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge. Currently sitting in TTR World No. 8, Ty could also improve her position in the TTR Top 10. The competition will be heavy for the women’s field especially with US Snowboarding Team members, Gretchen Bleiler, Kaitlyn Farrington, Ellery Hollingsworth and Elena Hight all on the rider list. This year also the womens TTR World Tour Champion will be crowned at the Burton US Open and the Top 3 female riders will be receiving a piece of the $200,000 USD Swatch TTR end of season prize purse. For those in America, the Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix in Mammoth Lakes, California will be aired at 1:00 pm EST on March 12, 2011 on NBC.
